AR 600-9 — The Army Body Composition Program
Army Regulation 600-9 establishes the Army's body composition standards, the measurement procedures that must be followed exactly, and the Army Body Composition Program (ABCP) that governs what happens when a soldier fails to meet the standard.
Body fat standards by age and gender, measurement procedures (neck, waist, hip), ABCP enrollment criteria and timeline, flagging actions, bar to reenlistment, medical referral requirements, and separation under AR 635-200 Chapter 18.
Body composition failures affect promotions, reenlistment, and can lead to separation. Measurement procedures must be followed exactly — an improperly conducted measurement can be challenged. NCOs need the exact standard and procedure to counsel correctly.
